American Sniper – Teaser Trailer

If this doesn’t get your heart going then you aren’t human. I am so happy to finally see footage from this film. Bradley Cooper has gone above and beyond to keep the story of United States Navy SEAL Chris Kyle true to the text, which was the SEAL’s Autobiography of the same name. Clint Eastwood is also in the director’s chair making this film’s hype go up another notch. Enjoy the trailer above!

American Sniper releases January 15, 2015 in theatres.

The Skeleton Twins – A Short Guy Review

The Skeleton Twins is one of those small indie films where the slapstick comedians you have grown to love get to take a break. A break from having to make you laugh and actually tell a great story. Seeing talented actors like Kristin Wiig and Bill Hader take a step out of their wheelhouse to make this film was a real treat. Don’t get me wrong, the film is absolutely hilarious. However, it deals with serious issues like suicide, adultery and depression in today’s modern world.

I loved this film. These are the little gems that come out each year showing so much promise , but I fear for them and the lack of money they bring in for the studios (or distributors) taking the chance. The jokes were usually dry and spot on from start to finish. While Wiig did a great job, Bill Hader was the one who stole the show. Hader played Wiig’s gay and depressed brother dealing with relationships he had left back home, only to return and see his twin sister in the same kind of predicament.

I don’t like to give plots away too much in review so I will just leave it at that. If you live near an independent theater showing The Skeleton Twins, then do you best to get there and see it before it gone the way of Video on Demand (VOD).

Exodus: Gods and Kings – Full Trailer #1

When I saw the teaser trailer a few months ago, I was happy to see Ridley Scott was doing an important story actual justice. In the latest trailer we see more of the scale of Scott’s latest epic in action, and dare I say, it looks fantastic. I just hope that Ridley sticks to the text rather than going down the path Darren Arronofsky chose to walk down with NOAH. That film was an epically beautiful dumpster fire that I won’t shame my eyes into watching ever again.

EXODUS will be released December 12, 2014 here in the USA.

OBVIOUS CHILD – A Short Guy Review

Jenny Slate stars in “Obvious Child” from A24 Films

Yes, I am a fan of the new age indie romantic dramedy. Yes, I am okay with that. You want to know why? It has a little bit of everything for every member in the theater’s audience. And if done right, it will leave you with a feeling that sticks with you for the rest of the day or week. I have had such the pleasure of watching a film lately that gave me that very feeling.

Jenny Slate is the film Obvious Child. She has shown that she is capable of so much more than a little voice coming out of a little shell. While the story’s subject matter is not light, but the film knows how to make light of the subject’s story. It finds the hilarious and heartbreaking moments that take place around an unwanted pregnancy and make it relative to what real people go through in real life. Slate has a fantastic supporting cast and great direction in this little gem, but it’s hard to walk away from thinking about anything but her performance. I highly recommend renting this film if you get the chance.

Obvious Child is now available to buy or rent on iTunes.
